De volta de Amsterdão e ao contrário do que referi no meu último post a foto desta semana não é nem de uma Coffeshop, nem dos canais que atravessam a cidade, nem mesmo dos Moinhos dos arredores. A desta semana é do interior da
Westerkerk (literalmente Igreja Ocidental, ou de Oeste). Esta igreja protestante está carregada de história. Rembrant van Rijn foi aqui sepultado, e dada a sua proximidade com a
Casa de Anne Frank o rebate do sino é mencionado no diário desta menina enquanto esta se refugia, com a sua familia, da perseguição Nazi numa parte do edificio da empresa de compotas do seu pai. A subida à torre desta igreja é também um ponto alto de qualquer viagem (sem piada intencional). De lá é possivel avistar uma extensão incrivel da cidade de Amsterdão.
Na foto encontra-se não só um dos candelabros que iluminam o interior desta igreja, mas também o seu orgão Roelof Barentszn Duyschot, nomeado após o seu construtor.

Back from Amsterdam and unlike what I said in my previous post, this week's photo is not of a Cofeeshop, it is not of the canals that go through the city, and it is not of the windmills just outside the city. This week's photo is of the interior of
Westerkerk (literally Western Church). This protestant church is packed with history. Rembrant van Rijn was buried here, and given it's proximity to
Anne Frank's House it's bell is referenced in her diary while she goes into hiding, with her family , from the Nazi prossecution in a concealed part of her father's jams company building. Reaching the top of this church's tower is also a High point (no pun intended) of any trip. From there you can see a remarkable view of the city of Amsterdam.
In this picture, we find not only one of the chandeliers that light the interior of the church but also it's organ Roelof Barentszn Duyschot, named after it's builder.
